Helping hand

I don't understand the new helping hand system. It already happened to me twice. I post a request then leave the game. When I get back to check its gone from the list. I supposed to claim it first right? But it's disappeared. I end up have to cook by myself. Then what's the point? It get worst during tournament. Fix it. PLEASE.
